EV charging

EV Charger Installation in Brier

The unit is simple. Whether a service from the seventies can carry it is the actual question.

Charging added to an older service

Brier's housing stock mostly predates home charging by thirty years, so the first question is never which unit to buy. It is whether the service feeding the house can take another forty to sixty amps of continuous load alongside everything already on it. A load calculation answers that in about twenty minutes. Plenty of houses here turn out to have the room. Some need load management instead, which is far cheaper than an upgrade. A few genuinely need the service addressing first, and it is much better to know that before the car arrives than after. Our work on the circuit carries a two-year workmanship warranty: if our installation is the reason something fails, we return and correct it with no further labour charge.

What is included

A load calculation before any quote

What the service can genuinely support with everything existing counted.

A dedicated 240V circuit

Correctly sized conductors and breaker, on a route planned through crawl space, attic or exterior wall.

Mounting and termination

Fixed at a sensible height to something that will hold it, with the lead reaching the car's port side.

Permit and inspection

Filed, booked and met by us. EV circuits are inspected work in Snohomish County.

Worth asking before you order

The panel is a 100 amp service

Common in Brier. Not a dead end — load management often solves it without an upgrade.

No free double slot

Frequent, and usually cheaper to resolve than people assume.

The garage is at the end of a long drive

Distance drives conductor size and therefore cost more than the unit does.

A heat pump is also on the list

Two big loads in one year is exactly what load management exists for.

Questions about this work

Do I need a service upgrade?

Often not, even on a 100 amp service. Load management lets a charger share capacity safely and is usually much cheaper. The calculation decides it and costs nothing.

How fast will it charge?

A 40 amp circuit adds roughly 25 to 30 miles of range an hour for most cars, which covers a south-county commute several times over on an overnight charge.

Can you fit a unit I already bought?

Yes, and we will say before fitting it if it is a poor match for your service rather than after.
